My SMSC journey

Today I am sharing my SMSC journey. I have been a teacher for over 21 years in secondary schools. I have always wanted to be part of education for opportunities to embrace diversity, challenge, seek personal development and growth, and make an impact on myself and the children I taught. Impact is my chosen word of focus for 2021. I want to make a positive difference where and when I can. All of this is still true. What is your reason for being part of education or your thoughts about education? Over time I have come to realise that there is more to education than what happens in the classroom. I have always known this but this really came to the fore when I had my children and began to see the beginnings of their educational journey.. I had a reasonable grasp on what it was like at the end too. Like everyone I watch the news try to keep up to date with what is happening, socially, politically and financially, I want to understand the world I am living in and I want my children to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world we all live in, I want the same for my students too. The pressures of exam results as the perceived benchmark of success have pushed aside the opportunities for holistic education, a character-building education, and in fact all the benefits of having SMSC integrated within the learning experience. So rather than wait for someone else to suggest and make changes I decided to do it for myself.
